Community Development Grants Awarded

In 2004, Community Futures Heartland committed $30,000 of its budget to undertake direct support of local community economic development initiatives through the Community Projects Fund Program.  The objective was to build capacity, create long term economic impact, engage in the community and build partnerships.  Projects needed to be community driven and based on realistic opportunities and time-lines.  There were two submission dates being June 1, 2004 and December 1, 2004.

In the first round of submissions there were 20 applicants requesting a total of approximately $80,000 where 6 proposals were approved in the amount of $20,000.  The successful candidates were:

  •  Winkler Bible Camp - $3,000.00 for mini-golf course

  • Roland rink Board - $3,000.00 for roof repairs

  • Miami Children's Facility - $2,000.00 for shade structures

  • Tiger Hills Community Resource Centre (Treherne) - $5,000.00 for playground equipment

  • Glenella Go-Fers - $3,500.00 for portable stage trailer

  • Mile 60 park (St. Claude) - $3,500.00 for soccer goals and baseball nets.

The second deadline in December of 2004 had 14 applicants from various communities within the region requesting nearly $57,000 in total.  From these, 5 projects were selected for a total of $10,000.  The successful applicants were:

  • Carman Active Living - $2,500.00 for acoustic tiles

  • Notre Dame Senior Services - $500.00 for equipment purchases

  • Miami Community Development Corporation - $2,500.00 for Commtech Mall upgrades

  • Roseisle Community Co-Op - $2,000.00 for store development

  • TLC Day Care (Carman) - $2,500.00 for playground fence.
