Service
groups and organizations can benefit from strategic planning
whereby past accomplishments can be reviewed and future goals
established. Strategic planning is a formal process to extract
vital opinions and goals from Board or committee members and
then develop a logical road map for the organization to
follow in the coming year. This is essential for organizations
which may have been in existence years and could be stuck in a
rut and follow the same routine in a rapidly changing world.

Similar
to strategic planning, our role is to listen and encourage
discussion. Facilitation service involve gathering the
stakeholders around the same table to an organized discussion
about a mutual concern. Whether it is to establish a committee
for a specific task or to assist two groups to merge in an era
of volunteer burnout, we may be able to help. Specific
information regarding the concerns or the anticipated outcome
would be needed prior to staff attending the session. |

Community Futures Heartland staff have been trained to assist
communities in the structured process to evaluate the business
community's needs and wants. The process takes several weeks
from inception to final report and can require many volunteers
from the community to participate. However, the results can be
rewarding if it means the community retains an enterprise that
may be frustrated with current conditions of the area.
Likewise, another enterprise may be looking for help and
encouragement to expand local market and as a result hire a few
more people at its plant. |
